The Midlands for garden lovers

Holiday in England, May 2005

This is a photographic album in 8 chapters covering 10 days' holiday in the the Western part of the Midlands with a trip into Wales. We were two couples travelling together: My wife Ida and I from Denmark and our friends Chris and Barbara from Cornwall, England.
About what to see, our emphasis was on beautiful gardens and parks, cosy villages and rural countryside, however also old towns and industrial heritage sites were on our want list.
The holiday was extremely well planned by Chris and Barbara - they had booked B&Bs at very good places, some of them they knew beforehand, and made a list of interesting sites to visit, and they provided for the transport in their comfortable car. Many thanks to Chris and Barbara for their fellowship and management - it could by no means have been arranged better by any travel agency!

1. Stone House Cottage and Bewdley
We visit a very beautiful garden and a cosy little town on our way from Birmingham Airport to Acton Pigott not far from Shrewsbury.
2. Acton Pigott
In Acton Pigott we enjoy living in a B&B with a friendly athmosphere and surrounded by two beautiful gardens in a lovely rural countryside.
3. Ironbridge and other excursions
Excursions from Acton Pigott to nearby places: River Severn, Much Wenlock, The Wrekin, and Ironbridge.
4. Powis Castle & Garden
A day trip to the impressive castle and gardens near Welshpool in Wales.
5. Malvern and Tewkesbury
Our B&B in Malvern Link and excursions from here to the Malvern Hills, Spetchley Park and Tewkesbury.
6. The Cotswolds
Excursions from our B&B in Clapton-on-the-Hill to nearby places in the lovely Cotwolds: Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, and Bibury with the iconic Arlington Row.
7. Oxford
A day trip to Oxford with its colleges, churches and shopping archades.
8. Slimbridge Wetland Centre
A day trip where we see an immense number of birds in the wetland centre.
